Off-shore Tube Microphone Modification (Apex 460 and similar) $599
*introductory special
The finished product is a microphone beyond the realm of any microphone that I have compared it to: smooth, alive, and gorgeous. Check the audio samples to see how it fairs compared to Neumann M149 and other microphones.
The core of my approach is detail and quality; it is a complete rebuild and redesign of the microphone and power supply and uses top quality components at all points: a new capsule, tube and transformer, the replacement of every capacitor in the microphone and power supply, all resistors in the microphone, re-designed voltage regulation in the power supply (for ideal capsule voltage, lower noise level, better dynamic response and a top end nothing short of luxuriant), a new ceramic fuse in the power supply, new solid-core wire where possible, new Neutrik connectors on the power supply and microphone cable, shortening of the tube cable for correct heater voltage when needed. Should you also change your 7 pin cable? Maybe, maybe not... see here for why.
This mic will sound fantastic in front of virtually any sound source.
A switched EQ capacitor option with a K67 or CK12 capsule allows for you to have a great mellow sounding mic for vocals, but reserves you the right to have the capsule's added brightness at your disposal if needed for a source such as a dull acoustic guitar or a singer that needs added air. add $20
The transformer is the CM-2510 from Cinemag which I have found to be my favourite, but I can put in a different transformer by request. The capsule is from microphone-parts.com, your choice of RK7, K47, RK12, or RK67 (add $10). I will gladly install capsules from other manufacturers at request and for additional cost. Please note, I will gladly accept parts shipped directly from manufacturers, but I am not able to install customer supplied parts as I cannot verify their functionality or condition and have no recourse for warranty in such cases.
