Hand-held Condenser Microphone Modification (Apex 515 and similar) $169 (price per case for surface mount style boards)
*introductory special

Though the basic electronic design of these mics are quite solid, there are two major flaws:

In my modification I address both issues. The first issue is addressed very simply with the insertion of an additional layer of foam in the head basket. this is a slight compromise in sound, but worth it for the value of a dependable live performance mic. The electronic portion of the modification includes the replacement of every capacitor in the microphone, most resistors, replacement of the FETs where warranted (and HFE matched, where applicable), changed capacitor values (to attenuate the ‘essy-ness’ where applicable), and new solid-core wire where warranted.

This mic will now be absolutely fantastic for live vocals and live vocal recording; consider it the affordable KSM104 or KSM105. As well, you can use it as a plain old SDC by unscrewing the headbasket. Check out the samples page.
