This is one modification that is definitely a rebuild. The basic electronic design of these microphones was intended to make the mic consistent for measurement, not recording, in varied situations. As well, the physical design of the tip of the microphone emphasizes high frequencies in an unnatural way. This rebuild consists of a completely different and simplified electronic design with as few components as possible, a new electret (capsule), new solid-core wire where warranted, and a physically altered nose shape.
